Feldgendarmerie
Part 4: Sewing Instructions
1) HEADGEAR
Standard SS issue M40 or M43 Ski caps with normal SS Insignia are appropriate. In addition members may add an Orange coloured “Soutache”. (inverted V) around the skull insignia.
M40 Side Caps
Eagle is positioned centrally above this on main body of cap front. Skull is positioned centrally on bottom 'flap' front.

This is the preferred field cap in Trupp 12. Every member is expected to own one of these.
M43 Field Caps
a) Separate Insignia (Skull & eagle).
'2 Buttons'
Eagle is positioned centrally on side of cap, centrally along length of cap, which is usually just above your ears. Consult photographs to make yourself sure.
Skull is positioned centrally on main body of cap above the buttons.
b) One-piece (trapezoid) insignia.
Position insignia above buttons.
M43 Field Caps
a) Separate Insignia (Skull & eagle).
'1 Button'
Eagle is positioned over skull on the area on the front of the cap above the button, like trapezoid, but then in two pieces.
b) One-piece (trapezoid) insignia.
As above.

2) TUNICS
Collar patches must be 9mm from collar edge. Ensure that the bottom edge of the patch is parallel with the bottom edge of the collar.
The SS pattern sleeve eagle is to be worn on the right sleeve. SS-Feldgendarmerie did not wear the orange coloured Police Sleeve Eagle as a matter of course even though that was the standing order. The SS arm eagle is positioned halfway between the shoulder seam and your elbow (when you bend your arm). This usually then brings the sleeve eagle in line with the bottom edge of the top pocket flaps on the tunic. Either of the colours below is suitable, silver is not .
Grey White
Orange piped epaulettes should be worn just in front of the shoulder seam. Your tunic should already have the loops and buttons in the correct place, but please check first if unsure.
The straight lettered HJ cuff-title is sewn 14.5cm from the middle bottom edge of the sleeve. Measure from the middle of the bottom edge of the cuff-title and ensure that it is straight. This means that the distance between the bottom edge of the cuff-title and the bottom edge of the sleeve will be greater at the rear seam than the front seam. Secondary cuff-titles for Feldgendarmerie are positioned below the main, divisional cuff-title.
Members of the Trupp, aged up to 25 years of age, will wear the standard pattern Feldgendarmerie cuff title, composed of black cloth, with a metallic silver thread edging, with the legend " SS-Feldgendarmerie " woven in gray artificial silk. This will be worn directly below the Divisional " Hitlerjugend " Cuff title.
Members of the Trupp aged over 25 years of age have a number of choices. Firstly; they may wear the same " SS-Feldgendarmerie " cuff title as above, or wear a 'normal' Feldgendarmie cuff title. Secondly; they may wear either the " Hitlerjugend " or the " Adolf Hitler " cuff title.
NOTE: If the " Adolf Hitler " cuff title is worn, then you will be required to wear the Hitlerjugend pin on the left breast of your tunic (bottom right). This is in order to show that you belong to the 12th SS and not the 1st SS.
Sturmmann/ Rottenführer
The insignia is positioned 1.5cm underneath the sleeve eagle. You just do one little stitch on the top and bottom of the insignia. You stitch one end secure and then pull it tight as you stitch the other side. In this way it stays straight while you sew it on.
SS-Hauptscharführer, SS-Scharführer & SS-Unterscharführer
Tresse is sewn along the whole line of the collar.
