Hitlerjugend
Part 5: Rank Structure
Promotions
From time to time, as the group grows, we need more NCO's. You will be notified of this through the website. An NCO's role is to control the sections, or a section or a part of a section in battles, dependant on his rank. Certain military tasks will need to be completed by him during a battle, either on his own, or as part of a larger part of the group. NCO training is available within the group as needed. At shows, different NCO's and their sections have specific roles to fulfill. The following areas always need some sort of 'maintenance' at shows, namely tents, signposts/barriers, equipment.

We expect our NCO's to conduct themselves in such a manner that they are respected and that their 'orders' are taken. This applies not only to 'combat' situations in the field where we all have to work together but also with more practical requests such as packing away the tents at the end of an event when we all want to get home! NCO's within the 12th and Panzer Lehr are promoted using the following method, which we feel is as fair as we can make it. However, as with all such issues, we always welcome any improvements/suggestions.

When we a need another NCO, applications are to be made in writing or email to whoever's name is mentioned in the announcement. We always recommend that you apply as every promotion has a 'knock on' effect, as one person gets promoted, he leaves a vacant rank that will get filled by someone else who applied. If two or more people apply for the new position, then the member who is most senior ranking gets it. If it's a tie then the member who has attended the most events in the last year gets it and if it's still a tie then the member who's been in the group the longest gets it. Please note that this system is unprejudiced and no amount of persuasion, bribery, flattery, sulking or innuendo will alter the result! Other groups may promote 'favourites', but we have seen the results of that system.

The 'ranks' of SS-Obergrenadier is automatically attained when a member has attended 50% of events in a complete year of their membership. This is for any event except photo shoots, which are generally attended by more local members. To date, this has been given to members within their first year as by the second year, they are applying for promotions. Holding the 'rank' of SS-Obergrenadier' does not automatically guarantee a promotion as indicated above, although the attendance to date would of course be considered. Note that as in the real Waffen SS, SS-Obergrenadier is not a rank as with the NCO ranks above, but a recognition of service and thus, hopefully, of experience! Please make the leadership aware if you are entitled to become a SS-Obergrenadier. Please note that the wearing of holstered pistols or 'Crusher' caps is not permitted with this 'rank'.
